I had a dead AB ultra, so I decided to take it apart and see what failed. When it died I bought a new one, so I didn’t mind if I broke this one taking it apart. If you are interested in how it failed, it made loud clunking noises and then just moving one day while in use. When turned on, it would make a clunk and whining noise, then display 3 red lights. It wasn’t fully stuck as the carrier would move when turning on.
It was quite easy to take apart and surprisingly I didn’t break any plastic tabs. Pry off the top and bottom blue parts, then there are lots of little screws top and bottom. Take those out and split the case in half.
I couldn’t find anything wrong with it internally. I just cleaned and greased the jack screw and the rods the stroker carrier rides on and it was working normally. Put it all back together and it works 100%. Maybe I’ll experiment with nicer VESA mount as I can chop up the shell on this one.
@Autoblow_Brian_Sloan What is the plastic material of the AB ultra shell? I’d like to find a suitable adhesive that will bond to it.
